This is from the Association of California Veterinarians weekly newsletter:

UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Hosts Successful Food Animal Symposium

In an attempt to reinvigorate the food animal program at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the Food Animal Reproduction and Medicine (FARM) Club has made concerted efforts to bring new events to campus.

Accordingly, we are are proud to report that the first ever Food Animal Symposium was a great success. There were over 50 attendees including 25 veterinarians from California and Nevada as well as 25+ students. Seven units of Continuing Education were offered for attendance. Dr. Rich Breitmeyer (CDFA) updated us on the TB surveillance program in California, Dr. Birgit Puschner (UCD/CDFA) went through several interesting cases of recent livestock intoxications, Dr. John Angelos (UCD) discussed his current research on pinkeye disease, Dr. James Maclachan (UCD) then presented the recent progression of Blue Tongue Virus both internationally and regionally.

After lunch, Dr. Terry Lehenbauer (VMTRC) tackled the hot topic of antimicrobial resistance in livestock, followed by Dr. Frank Mitloehner's fascinating air quality research in dairy and feedlot cattle. Dr. Mike Karle (ACV) closed the day with a great synopsis of the current legislative challenges we are facing from the national to local level. The symposium finished with a tri-tip BBQ and great opportunities for students and practitioners to converse.

Feedback from the veterinarians in attendance was unanimously positive and we are excited to begin planning the 2nd Annual Food Animal Symposium!

Dr. Cornish

Hey Farm Clubers,
As many of y'all know, Dr. Cornish is leaving for the greater state of Texas in July. The biggest is the upcoming Food Animal Symposium that will be here at Valley on October 3. We will be offering CE credit to private practitioners for the one-day event followed by a tri-tip dinner/social and we have already lined up a very interesting speaker schedule. Our goal is to attract a good number of private practitioners and students so that we can interact with our future employers and colleagues. FARM Club has never held a symposium like this, so we hope to set a precedent for those who follow us. There will be a symposium planning meeting TBA before summer, and we will need many hands to contribute to pulling this thing off. If you are interested, please stay tuned.
Also, we would like to encourage you to join us at the AABP Conference in Omaha from September 10-12. I went 2 years ago and it was a great time with many student-oriented events. (UCD was represented by 3 students...all other schools sent about 20). If you are interested in attending, email Jessica. Conference registration is free to student members. We will be doing post-event fund raising (raffle, clothing sales, registration fees) in conjunction with the Symposium to try to reimburse some costs. Also, SCAVMA has the PDF fund to help offset these types of costs. The first week of school is a great week to miss, so consider coming with us.
As far as other ideas for FARM Club next year, we will continue to bring you field trips, seminars, wet-labs, revamped CALF Team, and relevant rounds. We hope to set schedules in advance and update this site with information. We look forward to bringing these new ideas for next year, and hope that you will too. Email us with any suggestions.
-your presidents

Elbow Deep: The First Step

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-25iTavl58k/ShSyEgrGE1I/AAAAAAAAAKQ/nfyh4Lzwnuo/s320/154alsh3er.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338087248900789074" />

Hey everyone,
I have tried to implement multiple moderators that can post to this site with news, information, and events.
